Well, they're boring, unexciting and they make the copy sound 'stilted' i.e. it doesn't flow.
So, to increase your readership and thus your sales here are the 8 words you shouldn't have anywhere in your copy unless you truly do not have any other choice.

Let's get right into it:

Word #1

LEARN:

This word implies that your client/s have to make an effort; they have to go back to school. This word also implies that there is a time element involved and no-one has 'time' available these days, we're all so busy.

Replace with: DISCOVER

Example:

Learn 12 New Ways To Increase Eyeballs On Your Site *yawn*
or
Discover 12 New Ways To Increase Eyeballs On Your Site *Yippee!*

Word #2

TELL:

Now none of us want to be told what to do, we almost automatically don't do it but if we replaced 'tell' with:

REVEAL

then we have a whole new ballgame.

Example:
I'll tell you how to do once you've signed up to my course.
or
I'll reveal how it is done once you've signed up to my course.
(Which one would you most likely sign up for?)

Word #3

BUT

But is a 'pause' word; you can almost hear your readers take a breath. If they take a breath then the momentum of your pitch is broken and you have given them time to think.

Replace with: HOWEVER

It carries them on to your next benefit seamlessly as you can see in the sample below:

Example:
Here's $397 worth of bonuses but we don't want give you those
or
here's $397 worth of bonuses however, we don't want to give you those

Using 'however' takes away the negativity of the word 'but' and helps you adjust the tone of your pitch.

Word #4

BUY

Nobody, but nobody wants to be sold to, period. Yes they want your service or product but they don't want to 'buy' it.

Replace with: CLAIM / INVEST / RESERVE

When you 'invest' in a course, you know you are paying for it but you aren't handing over wads of cash for it

Example:
Click here to buy your course on '41 ways to bury your cat'
or
Click here to claim your course on '41 ways to bury your cat'

Word #5

IF

This word is generally used to introduce a choice or a condition to your clients and again has some tones of negativity about it.

replace with: WHEN

Example:
If You Want To Get More Traffic, Conversions, And Sales Then This is The Most Important Letter You'll Have Ever Read
or
When You Want To Get More Traffic, Conversions, And Sales Then This is The Most Important Letter You'll Have Ever Read

Word #6

THINGS

What a terrible word! It implies two possibilities in your sales copy:
1) You haven't got a clue what you are talking about and
2) You are talking in generalities and you should ALWAYS be specific in your copy writing.

Replace it with: TIPS / TECHNIQUES / TRICKS

Examples:
Discover 5 things your competitiors don't know about
or
Discover 5 Tips your competitiors don't know about
or
Discover 5 Techniques your competitiors don't know about
or
Discover 5 Tricks your competitiors don't know about

Word #7

STUFF

Another word that means you don't know what to talk about!
Nobody wants to reserve 'stuff', they don't want to discover 'stuff'.

Replace with: SECRETS / INSIDER TIPS

Example:
Discover the stuff high converting salespages are made of
or
Discover the Insider Secrets to high converting salespages

Word #8

THAT

This is one of the most overworked words in the English language and in 99% of the time you don't even need it!

Example:
I was told that the movie was great to watch
or
I was told the movie was great to watch.

'That' is a filler word, it means nothing and you don't need it.

OK, that's it. If you can go through your copy and make the changes recommended above then you'll find that your sales copy will flow more easily thus leading your prospects further into your sales funnel; ultimately leading to more sales for you.

Good luck

(Credit for this list must go to Trevor 'Toecracker' Crook at http://trevorcrookblog.com/)

Just in Time for Easter: The Art of Persuasive Debate

First, let me wish all of our readers a "Happy Easter."

Whether you celebrate Easter as a religious holiday, a family weekend, or simply a time to refresh, I hope the weekend is a wonderful time for you and your family.

Easter, of course, does raise some religious issues and questions. And it's a great opportunity to discuss one of the most important dimensions of Mass Persuasion - namely, the art of debate.

In debate, your objective is to build a case for or against a certain proposition - and to then persuade as many people in your audience as possible to agree to your case.

Some of the most contentious and interesting debates are in the field of religion. And Easter gives us an opportunity to look at such a debate, namely one that deals with the subject matter of religion.

The following is a debate between two highly respected scholars on the subject of Jesus' purported resurrection. The debate "Is There Historical Evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus?" features William Lane Craig (arguing for the affirmative of Jesus' resurrection) and bestselling author and scholar Bart Ehrman (arguing against the resurrection of Jesus). It was held at the College of the Holy Cross (Massachusetts) in 2006.

I've posted this first video from the debate. Think about that for a moment.

The answer may surprise you.

Do you teach?
Are you a parent or carer?
Are you a manager?

The list goes on and on.

Guess what? Most people need persuasion skills.

You may need to persuade yourself to change a bad habit that you may possess.

The best persuaders are also probably the best sales people. Companies need sales people to persuade customers that they need to buy their product/s or services. They also need managers and supervisors to persuade the workforce to follow company policies etc.

So the big question. How do we persuade? Well stick with this article and I'll show you ways to get started.

There are a number of skills we can learn.

Some people are natural born persuaders. It is by studying successful persuaders that we can learn how to become power persuaders ourselves.

One of the most important skills to learn is that of rapport. Gaining rapport is the first step in any successful communication....the oil that helps the engine run smoother. Maintaining rapport is essential for effective communications to continue.

Your ability to get into rapport is an essential part of learning to master persuasion. Establishing rapport helps to create an environment of trust by showing the other person that you understand and can share their view of the world.

'The more like someone I am, the more likely they are to like and trust me.'

'People like people like them!'

In sales there is a saying that goes like this.

'They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.'

This translates as , until you communicate to your prospect that you care about their needs you will have a hard time persuading them to do anything.

Rapport can be established and maintained at four levels.

The first is at the non verbal level, where I can match body language, such as posture, gestures, facial expressions and eye contact.

Then at the voice level, where I can match breathing rate, tone and pitch.

Thirdly at the language level where I can match process words, and........

finally at the level of beliefs and values.

One of the quickest ways of gaining rapport is to mirror, or match the body postures and gestures of the other person. At the unconscious level the other person recognizes that you understand and value what they are communicating.

It is important to match the other person with respect; under-match and they will not recognize your communication; over-match and they will think you are copying or aping them.

You should mirror someone when you are sitting directly opposite them.

You can match them when you are sitting by them or at an angle.

These techniques can be practiced with a partner or work colleague. The results will astound you.

Click here to learn more about one of the most comprehensive persuasion courses available today.

Jim

How to Build Charisma

Dale Carnegie and John Maxwell on How to Build Charisma
by Brian Tubbs

In his book Winning With People, leadership expert and bestselling author John Maxwell identifies charisma as one of the most important aspects of persuasive communication. And the key to charisma, according to Maxwell, is genuinely and selflessly connecting with others.

Maxwell writes: "People are interested in the person who is interested in them."

Maxwell credits legendary consultant and speaker Dale Carnegie for this insight. Makes sense. It was in Carnegie's classic How to Win Friends and Influence People that the following words of wisdom appear: "You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you."

In both Winning With People and How to Win Friends and Influence People, you can find the following "Six Ways to Make People Like You" and put you on the road to building charisma...

1. Become genuinely interested in other people
2. Smile
3. Remember that a person's name is to him or her the sweetest and most important sound
4. Be a good listener - Encourage others to talk about themselves
5. Talk in terms of the other person's interests
6. Make the other person feel important, and do it sincerely

These are just a few nuggets of wisdom found in the pages of Maxwell's Winning With People and Carnegie's classic How to Win Friends and Influence People. No one aspiring to unlock the secrets of persuasion should be without these books in his or her library.

Use the Right Words to Make Money

Using The Rights Words = $$$
by Mark Austin

One of the most powerful tools in your sales arsenal is the informed and judicious use of words and terminology. Words have the ability to entice a prospect, hold the attention of the potential buyer, and ultimately result in the establishment of a relationship that not only results in a sale today, but helps to create other sales activity in the future.

At the same time, words have the power to turn away potential clients, make people feel unappreciated, and ultimately lead to not only the loss of a sale today, but also the loss of sales opportunities in the future.

The effective salesperson knows the importance of choosing the right verbiage to present both the seller and the product. Whether in verbal communications or in the creation of written documents such as sales brochures, letters and emails, or any other type of promotional materials, using the right words in the right places is key to being successful at the task of sales.

Here are some ideas that will help you hone your sales vocabulary, and enhance your ability to utilize words that ultimately lead to productive client relationships....

To read the rest of this in-depth report on copywriting, register for a FREE membership at ResellRightsWeekly.com.

Keep it Simple: The Key to Effective Communication

Simplicity is one of the most important keys to effective communication. When it comes to connecting with and persuading people, pollster and communications consultant Frank Luntz says: "Simplicity counts."

Simplicity in Communication

In his book Words That Work, Luntz cites "small words" and "short sentences" as among the two most important "rules" for effective communication.

According to Luntz, there is a strong "public preference for simple words and acronyms" -- a preference reflected in politics, business, pop culture, and everyday living.

Luntz argues that it's a credibility issue as much as anything else. Luntz explains:

"[U]sing a long word when a short one would suffice tends to raise suspicions: 'What is this guy trying to sell me? Does he have an ulterior motive?' The most effective language clarifies rather than obscures. It makes ideas clear rather than clouding them. The more simply and plainly an idea is presented, the more understandable it is - and therefore the more credible it will be."

Not only should we use small words, but we should also go for brevity in our sentences. "Be as brief as possible," writes Luntz, "Never use a sentence when a phrase will do, and never use four words when three can say just as much."

More Rules of Effective Language

Based on many years of experience and the results of countless polls and focus groups, Luntz has put together Ten Rules of Effective Language. The first two rules ("Small Words" and "Brevity") are mentioned above. The others include:

*Rule Three: Credibility is as Important as Philosophy
*Rule Four: Consistency Matters
*Rule Five: Novelty - Offer Something More

And so on. There are ten in all, and all of them are explained with statistics, anecdotes, and commentary.

If you haven't picked up a copy of Words That Work, don't miss out!

Roger Dawson Reveals How to Control People

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 178px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0Qh0lOPyrZk/Sba-SqO5XHI/AAAAAAAAAVs/C1KFsRI-1HY/s320/rogerdawson.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311642038313770098" />Roger Dawson, author of Secrets of Power Persuasion: Everything You'll Ever Need to Get Anything You'll Ever Want, says that "there are underlying forces at work in our life that cause us to control other people or be controlled by them."

Can we REALLY control people?

What does it mean to "control" someone? Dawson is not talking about turning someone into an automaton through hypnosis or some kind of mind drug. He's simply referring to how we can move people to take certain actions. The kind of "control" Dawson is talking about is not necessarily tyrannical (though it arguably could be), but rather influential.

According to Dawson, there are certain "magic keys" that, if inserted and turned correctly, can result in our projecting strong (even commanding) influences on those around us.

Should we even WANT to "control people"?

Now, let me be clear. I am in no way advocating that we should control someone to his or her detriment. On the contrary, what I'm trying to get across (and I think what Roger Dawson is also trying to get across) is that there are "underlying forces" in play of which we should be aware.

No less a moral authority than Jesus put it this way: "Be wise as serpents; and harmless as doves" (Matthew 10:16).

We shouldn't control other people to take advantage of them, hurt them, or exploit them. But we should be aware of the "underlying forces" Dawson describes, so that we can take responsibility for our own lives and how we interact with others. Our communication should be ethical and constructive.

Let's be honest. There are some situations in which we need to exercise control, and there are some in which we need to resist being controlled by others. In all cases, we need to be "wise as serpents" and (absolutely) "harmless as doves."

How to Control People

Okay, so how do we do "control" people? Well, it does NOT involve hypnosis or drugs. It involves specific (and Dawson says "magic") keys in our communication. Here are five of the eight "magic keys" of control, according to Roger Dawson:

1. People can be persuaded if they think you can reward them

2. People can be persuaded if they think you can punish them

3. Apply the dual pressures of reward and punishment

4. People will buy what you're saying, if they think you can both reward and punish them.

5. People can be persuaded if you bonded with them.

To get the other three magic keys of control along with a deeper explanation of all eight, you'll need to get the book. Look for it in your local library or order it through Amazon at the link below.

Dawson is one of the foremost experts on negotiation, sales, and persuasion. He knows his stuff, and if you want to become a master persuader, you need to invest some time and money in studying Roger Dawson.

Hello and Welcome!

Hello Everyone and Welcome to the "Secrets of Mass Persuasion" blog.
